Vietnam - Long Phuoc to Ho Chi Minh City Airport - April 2013

We spent our last day in Vietnam visiting the war zones of the Vietnam War in the province of Phuoc Tuy.
We travelled back by bus to the Saigon Airport (Ho Chi Minh City Airport).  We arrived a good two hours ahead of time which meant that we had to wait with our luggage in tow until the check ins opened to accept our luggage including golf bags.  Luckily we had booked as a group and our seating was pre-booked meaning we all got window seats on the way back.  It was better to be early rather than late so that this arrangement was not upset.

The trip home was comfortable. Peter & I won the jackpot and got seats in the back row of our section which meant we could put our seats right back for the duration of the trip without annoying anyone.  It was a night flight home leaving Vietnam about 9.00pm and arriving in Sydney at about 8.30 am. the next day which meant that we could sleep for most of the way after a big day of touring.

It was an interesting two weeks in a country that I had not visited before.  As you can tell by the photos the country changes vastly from province to province.  There are some most beautiful natural beauty places and some very impoverished areas, the cities were busy and noisy with motor bikes being the main means of transportation for the majority of families.  There is a lot of history to the country.  The people are friendly, polite and the food - mainly seafood, is laid on and inexpensive.  The Golf Courses were impressive - especially the Long Thanh Golf Resort and we enjoyed our golf games there.  It was very hot and humid and fortunately we did not get much rain in the two weeks we were there.    Our accommodation was good, our tour guides were excellent.  The road structures were rough & the long haul bus trips were a bit of a challenge on some of the "highways".  Overall I enjoyed the experience and saw some beautiful and impressive things that were unique to Vietnam.

I was also very impressed that in the majority of places that we visited free WiFi was available throughout the hotels, even in the hotel rooms which is something that the Western Countries seem to struggle with. I could maintain my blogs on a daily basis with Halong Bay being the only place that internet was not available in some form.

I am posting these photos so that it will read in the order that we travelled - starting at Hanoi and finishing in Saigon.  To read right through the postings click on "older posts" at the bottom of each section and you will be able to read right through the trip start to finish.
