Ludwig's Castle, Germany - inside the castle and grounds - June 2006

Our visit to Ludwig's Castle was mind blowing - it is hard to imagine anyone having the wealth that it would have taken to build this place in the most picturesque setting. We were not allowed to take any photos inside the castle rooms other than the kitchen area but needless to say they were magnificent in detail of the era.  It took a long time to walk through all the reception rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms of the castle and equally as long to walk the grounds including the amazing Grotto.

It was a fairy tale castle with a huge amount of imagination used to think up all of the detail.

The gardens and grounds were beautifully groomed and it was a pleasure to walk around taking in the scenery which would challenge anywhere in the world.

It is a must see if you are in the area.

Ludwig's Castle, Germany Just the views - June 2006

The temperature today was 12-13 degrees and raining which was a shame for our visit to Ludwig's Castle.  It was still worth the effort as the views were to die for.  If we had a sunny day our photos might have done it justice but sadly they are not as good as they could have been.

It was such a pleasure to look out on the beautiful countryside and take some walks around the castle grounds and to the Marion Bridge.

It took a few hours to look around the castle and grounds (photos in a separate post) and then there were several walking trails that could be done for those with enough energy.

It was not far to travel from Oberammergau but still an exhausting day with a lot of walking.

This is a must see if you are travelling in this area.
