Hainan Island 2014 - Haikou City and the Shangri-La Hotel, Haikou - April 2014

We enjoyed our few days in Haikou so we could play golf at Mission Hills Resort Courses.

Our hotel in Haikou was the Shangri-La and it was a very nice hotel with big rooms with balconies overlooking the swimming pool and the beach.  It has got extensive grounds with huge swimming pools and gardens leading down to the beach.

Our flight from Sydney was good - first flying from Sydney to Guangzhou on the mainland of China and then transferring for a one hour domestic flight to Hainan Island where we were having two games of golf at Mission Hills and then transferring to Sanya on the other side of the Island to play another five games.

The Golf Course on Hainan Island are magnificent with fairways and greens like velvet.  They are all beautifully maintained and it was a pleasure to be on them even if the golf was not so good.  We had carts and caddies for each of our games which was a MUST DO as the courses are far too big and time consuming to walk. The caddies are amazing how they can pick the correct clubs to use and direct our putting with great accuracy.

We were met at Haikou Airport by our guide "Willa" who is a local girl.  Willa escorted us for the whole of our tour making sure everything was in order for us including travel, accommodation, food, golf, shopping and tourist parks etc.  Willa was an excellent guide and we enjoyed her company.
