Victoria State Rose Garden, Werribee Victoria - October 2014

What a great experience this was - even though the blooms were only just starting to open the gardens were a credit to the state and to the volunteers who look after the gardens.

I can spend hours looking through gardens and this one was no exception.  The gardens were immaculate with a good variety of very healthy roses displayed in various patterned gardens - a total of approximately 5,500 roses.  What a picture it would be when they are all out in full bloom.

I will have to add that to my things to do before I die list.

I would love to live close enough to be a volunteer gardener.  I could lost in there for hours on end and probably would forget to go home.

If you are a rose tragic - this is the place for you.

It is set in Werribee Park not far out of Melbourne and near to Geelong.

Bells Beach, Victoria

We could not drive past Bells Beach and not call in even if the weather was really bad.  Bells Beach is Australia's famous surfing beach.

The wind was furious, freezing with heavy rain while we were there.  I was amazed at the number of surfers not only in the water, but on the beach and in the parking lot either coming or going from the beach area which is accessed by stairs.  They were clad in heavy wet suits to protect them from the cold.  Die hards I say!

Jan Juc, Victoria

On our way to have a look at Bells Beach we called into Jan Juc which has a lovely beach and lookout with spectacular views.

It was a pity the weather was not good.  It was raining with a bitterly cold wind so we did not stand around for long. On a good day one could while away a few hours there.  

Torquay, Victoria

We had a day tour from Angelsea and called in to have a look at Torquay.  We did not have a good weather day but we stayed for lunch at Torquay and had a look at the beautiful beach area.

It is a shame that we did not see it on a good day.  It is a lovely little place.

Angelsea, Victoria

We had a two night stop over at Angelsea after travelling from Phillip Island.

The weather had not been kind for the first day - but our camp site was protected and comfortable.

We stayed at the Angelsea Beachfront Family Caravan Park which was a good spot walking distance to the river and beach.  It was not busy season so we had a good choice of sites.  The amenities were good and overall we enjoyed our stay there.  It cost $76 for our two days stay at the park.

We had a walk down to the beach and riverfront.  Peter decided it was too windy to try fishing.

On our bad weather day we had a drive to Jan Juc, Bells Beach and Torquay just to have a look around. We called into the Golf Club to book a game of golf for the following day.

The second day we played 18 holes of golf at Angelsea Golf Club before travelling on to Apollo Bay.
