Haikou to Sanya October 2011 - Minority Village

On Friday 7th October 2011 we left the Mission Hills Golf Resort at Haikou to travel by bus to Sanya at the other side of Hainan Island where we spent the rest of our golfing tour.  We had a lot of heavy rain during our two days at Mission Hills and much of the district was flooded and still damaged from the recent typhoon that hit the island before we got there.  The trip took about 4 hours and we got to see a lot of the countryside along the way.  Rice paddocks, new & old buildings, working sites and farmland.

We stopped at a local Village which is a tourist stop to experience the lifestyle of what is known as the Minority Village.  It was set up something like Old Sydney Town with replicas of huts, many market stalls and concert style entertainment.  It was very noisy with loud drums & singing by local natives.  We bought a couple of souvenir items that we could barter for including some Hainan PJ's which are a popular tourist item. The weather was very warm & sticky with high humidity with the rainy weather.

We travelled on to our hotel (The Sheraton) which was situated outside of the city of Sanya at Yalong Bay right on the beach and just across the road from the Yalong Bay Golf Course which was very convenient.
The weather had not improved and we had showers on and off all day.

We had  24 seater bus at our disposal during our stay which was very comfortable as we each had a double seat and no crowding.  Harry, our Chinese Guide for the week, arranged all of our golf games, touring and sightseeing. Harry travelled with us every day to ensure our tour went smoothly.
