Central Park is a beautiful oasis in the middle of a big bustling city. It was much larger than I imagined that it was - even though the maps show a large expanse of parkland it is still bigger and better than I anticipated.
What a lovely place. We only had time to do one tour through the park (and then we only saw part of it) but I would have loved to have time to spend some casual time there - just wandering around or by bike ride. It is a lovely peaceful and serene place once you get away from the busy roadways that divert through the area. The roads are closed to traffic at certain times of the day.
The day we chose to go it was a cold showery day to start with and then fined up shortly after we started our tour. We had several options of how to tour the park. One was by horse and carriage. I was told that the horses were only allowed in restricted areas of the park. Another option was the pushbikes and carriages. This seemed a good option to us and we negotiated a one hour tour that would show us the main parts of the park. The park is far to big to walk through although it is a mecca for walkers and joggers.
Our Tour guides were good value and pointed out all the areas of interest in the park, parts of New York that fringe the park including John Lennon's residence and other famous people. They also stopped from time to time so that we could walk through the special interest part of the park such as Strawberry Fields.
I enjoyed our time in the park and it is a must do when coming to New York.
