The river got very shallow in places due to the drought being experienced in Thailand. This has been the hottest and driest season in 50 years in Thailand. The canoes had to be manhandled through some of the very shallow areas

We enjoyed our canoe experience in the Thailand Mountains. The canoe trip took an hour and a half and at times it got very hot out on the water with no shade. The country has been in drought with very little rain which was obvious in the river where at times the canoes had to be dragged manually through the shallow areas (we got a good bottom massage on the pebbles).
The tour took us through the jungle areas leading up to towering mountains which was beautiful. Our guide did all the work paddling us in and out of many of the little creek areas and getting us up close and personal with any wildlife we could find. The guide could only speak a little bit of English so had to guess the history of the place.
The guide took us into shady areas along the river to give us some relief from the heat but also got us into areas where there were a lot of fish teeming around the canoes.
This was a good experience ( if a little hard on the back) and we were happy to have seen this area in its natural state.
This tour was booked through our "Beyond Resort Khaolak" Resort tour desk and was combined with an Elepnant Trekking and monkeys.
