Torrey Pines Golf Course, San Diego USA - September 2012

We had Torrey Pines Golf Course on our wish list when visiting San Diego.  We could have got a game if we wanted to get up and be ready to play at first light.  We opted to call in for a visit to check the place out and then go on to see other places in San Diego.

We hired a driver for the day to take us out there as it is very much out of the way and a taxi was unpractical. It was a good choice as the hotel recommended "Flexi Transport" and their driver James picked us up at the hotel, drove us to Torrey Pines Golf Course and waited for us to check out the course and the Pro Shop.

James then took us on to see La Jolla Cove (pronounced " La Hoya") where he dropped us off for a few hours.  When we rang him he picked us up and took us back to the City waterfront where we wanted to see the USS Midway.  The cost for our days excursion was $80 which was amazing.  James acted as a tour guide and driver and we were very impressed with his service.

Torrey Pines looked great and the boys would have loved to have played the course.  The Pro Shop was good and the grounds were nicely kept.  There were of course a lot of pine trees.

Balboa Park, San Diego USA - September 2012

On our last day in San Diego we decided to visit Balboa Park which is a huge park designed in a much smaller way to the Museums in Washington - with different types of museums scattered throughout the park. There was a free tram between all the different museums as walking would have been very tiring.  There were only a couple of free museums and displays and some of the museums had expensive entry fees.  What we did see was interesting but some of the museums we would have liked to have seen were closed on the day.  There was not a lot to offer in the way of restaurants or other entertainment so we caught a cab to the waterfront to see what was to offer there.  The Zoo was right next door to Balboa Park but that would have been an all day visit.

Coronado Island, San Diego USA - September 2012

Our last day in San Diego we decided to catch the ferry across to Coronado Island from the San Diego waterfront.  It was a lovely place with a village atmosphere with some boutique shops for the girls and some beverage places for the boys.  It was a beautiful day and we got a good overview of the waterfront and a different aspect of San Diego from the water. The ferry left at regular intervals to take us back to the San Diego waterfront.

Maritime Museum, San Diego USA - September 2012

We finished up the last afternoon at San Diego with a stroll along the waterfront to the Maritime Museum where they have a lot of the old ships on display.  It was a lovely day and we walked back to our hotel from the waterfront to soak up the city views

We loved our San Diego experience.  The city has a lot to offer tourists and we did not have enough time here to visit everything which will give us a good excuse to come back should that ever be possible.

We are flying to Phoenix, Arizona tomorrow to have a day at Scottsdale where we hope to play golf and then we join up with a Globus Tour of the Canyon Country.
