Tian'an men Square - 25th October 2007

We had a big touring day today and our first stop was Tian'an men Square. It is a huge square that was originally the main entrance to the Imperial Palace in Ming & Qing Dynasties. After liberation, Tian'an men has become the symbol of new China.

John (our guide) held an Australian Flag so that we did not loose him in the crowds.
John pointed out the part of the square that is famous for the tanks rolling in & the student revolt. This area has a huge amount of history & is very interesting to hear about the various dynasties of the past.

We came accross another Australian group holding the boxing kangaroo flag & did our "oui! oui! oui!" call.

It was a very cool and smoggy day that got worse as the day went on. The smog in the Central of Beijing was very thick to the point of hardly being able to see the other side of the road.
