Hunter Valley Gardens - 9th October 2008

We visited the Hunter Valley Gardens for an hour after golf on Thursday which was just enough time for an overview - but not a detailed look. I was dissapointed that the roses were not out in bloom as they are in some parts of the valley. The roses had heaps of buds but not many flowers. In about three weeks time they will look magnificent as they are so healthy & robust.
I wish I had time for a return visit at that time as roses are my all time favourite flower.
Maybe next time! They probably prune late to avoid frost damage.
There were a lot of different varieties of plants & the gardens were set out over the acres in special faeture areas such as The Rose Garden; The Sunken Garden; The Childrens storybook garden; The Indian Garden; The Italian Grotto; The formal garden; The Japanese garden and so on. I could spend hours pottering around these type of displays. Considering that the gardens have been in for less than 10 years the owners have done a wonderful job and of course it is still work in progress so each new visit will show more advancement.
