We travelled from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles via Santa Monica and then visited the Paul Getty Museum before arriving at our hotel - JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at LA Live where we stayed two nights before going back to Santa Monica for a three day break.
Los Angeles was the end of our West Coast Tour with Insight Tours having travelled down the coast from San Francisco.
The Paul Getty Museum was well worth a visit. It was a huge place and we only had time to see just a small selection of the museum which housed some very famous paintings and works of art.
The next day we did a city tour of Los Angeles which included specialised mini coaches that took us through the Hollywood Hills to spot the Hollywood Sign, celebrity houses, Grauman's Chinese Theatre etc. We had a private tour of the Kodak Theatre (home of the Academy Awards ceremony) and viewed the stars on the footpath outside.
In the afternoon we had an opportunity to see Universal Studios movie sets. We opted not to do that excursion and afterwards I wished I had because anyone not going on that tour was left outside to fend themselves in the amusement arcades of the Universal Studios City Walk which only took half an hour to look through. We had lunch and a coffee while we waited for the tour group for another hour or so. That was not a lot of fun. It was too far away from anything else to venture away from the bus pick up spot.
That Evening we went to the Farmers Market for dinner and then went on to the Griffith Park Observatory which overlooked Los Angles and had spectacular views at night. That was a very interesting place with the big telescopes and museums inside.
I was left a little unimpressed with Los Angeles but I feel that we were not there long enough to do it justice and I would have liked to have been in a more relaxed atmosphere than rushing it all through in a day.
Our Insight Tour finished at Los Angeles and it was a comfortable tour down the West Coast. The bus seats were well spaced (better that Globus) and we got to see some really great places during the tour and our accommodation was good.
Our room at Los Angeles overlooked the hotel swimming pool that was lit up at night with changing colours of the rainbow which looked spectacular.
