Yosemite National Park USA - September 2012

Video of the only waterfall that we saw at Yosemite
due to drought conditions

We travelled from Senoma in the Napa Valley through California's Gold Country and into the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Yosemite National Park.

It was a pretty drive through the mountains but it was very dry and in need of rain.

Our accommodation at Yosemite National Park was basic cabin rooms which were adequate for where we were.  I did not expect to get 5 star rooms. Our hot water was okay - but some people on our tour complained that their hot water was insufficient.  The main reception building was a walk across the car park and that had a nice bar/function room and restaurant.

I had seen a professional documentary on the park before leaving home which gave me expectations of what I would see at Yosemite.  Unfortunately the documentary was done when there had been plenty of rainfall and the waterfalls were magnificent.  As a consequence I was disappointed that there was only one small waterfall to view.  I was expecting multiple huge waterfalls and a lot greener scenery.

The area was still very beautiful and scenic.  The photos do not do justice to the magnitude of it.  It would be a bush walkers paradise.  It must be very popular with the American Public as we arrived on the Monday of a Public Holiday and there was wall to wall traffic heading out of the park after the weekend.

Yosemite National Park was a good experience and I would love to have a chance to see it again when the waterfalls are at full capacity.
