Bourke to Dubbo - September 2013

We had a good day of travel from Bourke to Dubbo.  There were some road works along the way which meant we had to travel through red dusty roads which was not much fun.  Fortunately there were not long stretches of road being worked on.

We stopped to have a look at the Historical Beacon on the way out of Bourke.

Our lunch stop was at Girilambone where we stopped at the RSL Memorial Park which is on the side of the river.  We were setting up our lunch in the motor home and looked out the window to see a Camel looking in at us through the fence.  After we got over that surprise we realised that the fence was electrified to keep the animals inside where there were other animals including goats and they all came to the fence to get some attention.

We arrived in Bourke mid afternoon in time to take up the same site at the Poplars Caravan Park that we stayed in on our way through.  We parked the motor home and took a walk through Dubbo having a look at all the shops - of which there were many.  It is quite a big shopping Centre with a lot of options for shopping.  We worked our way down to the Old Dubbo  Gaol and the late afternoon time slot was good because there were not crowds of people there and we could have a leisurely walk through.

We found the Poplars Caravan Park very convenient - just a walk across the road to a big shopping centre that leads onto the main street of Dubbo.  We had no trouble with noise, in fact the park did not have a lot of traffic at all.  The amenities are old, but clean.  Our site was close to the amenities block which was convenient and it was a drive in drive out site.
