A Slice of Brooklyn Tour, New York - October 2012

Our "Slice of Brooklyn"Tour was recommended to us by friends so we booked in for the tour via the Internet at our hotel.  I thought the tour was great.  It is run by a Brooklyn Family who know the area like the back of their hand.  Our Tour Guide Tony did an excellent job of showing us all the interesting parts of Brooklyn including the background stories of the local entities. the film history of the place, the setting of the film scenes, the warehouses, the waterfront, the bridges, the famous homes, private schools where well known entities attended, street scenes for the movies, Coney Island, and some great city views.  Some of the photos above will have familiar scenes that you will recognise from the movies.

As a bonus  we got to try two different pizzas - Brooklyn style (included in the tour price). We stopped at Grimaldi's for our first pizza and I could not believe the line of people waiting to get in for lunch at 11.30 in the morning.  It is a very popular spot.  Our second Pizza at Spumoni Gardens was also good with some great sauce.

The trip took about 4 hours and I would highly recommend this tour.  Brooklyn could not be appreciated in the same way if you were travelling alone or with a big bus tour.  The smaller bus with the local guide is the way to go.  I thought the $80 per head was good value.

A lot of the areas that we travelled through on this tour were devastated by Hurricane Sandy two weeks later.
