Hong Kong-Victoria Harbour-17th October 2007
We left the Stanley Markets area and headed for Victoria Harbour. Along the way we stopped off at a jewellery warehouse where we were able to watch the masters crafting their jewellery. We were also given plenty of opportunity to buy from the inevitable gem shop which we had to walk through to exit the place.
The harbour views were lovely - a pity about the smog. We were able to get onto a couple of sampans which took us all around the harbour to the Aberdeen Fishing Village which is a floating community filled with junks and sampans. There were thousands of boats on the harbour of all sizes ranging from luxury to the poorest rowboat & included the biggest floating restaurant I had ever seen.
It was a facinating experience and a great way to see the harbour & the city from the water.
Images: Some of us getting into the sampan ready for the cruise; the sampan out on the water; various views of the boats and the city; the sun trying to shine through a mask of smog over the city; the floating restaurant.
