Baan Chang Khao Sok Elephant Trekkings - Thailand - April 2016

Elephant Trekkings

Ticking off the bucket list - Riding on top of an elephant

I was wondering how we were going to get up on top of the elephant

Trekking through the mountainside

The trek track was very dry and in need of the rainy season to arrive

Beautiful views from the top of the mountain

A beautiful view of the mountains of Thailand

Looking back to the elephant trekking area

This was a good part of the trek with beautiful views of the mountains

A cave in the mountains while we waited to give the elephants a rest in the shade

Going downhill on top of the elephant was scary

Another shady stop for the elephant

Looking for monkeys in the tree tops of the mountains

Feeding the elephant after our trekking - she ate a basket of bananas and a basket of sugar cane

Our travel guide made this grasshopper out if some grasses in the garden
While he was waiting for us to do our elephant trekking.
Thai people are very talented and artistic - I was very impressed and regretful that
I could not bring it back to Australia

Our official (must have) official photo of our elephant trekking adventure

Our holiday in Thailand was intended to be a restful one with just a couple of adventure tours thrown in.

This day was to tick "Elephant Trekking" off of our bucket list.

The tour was organised from our "Beyond Resort Khao Lak" tour desk and included canoe adventure in the mountain jungles and feeding the mountain monkeys.

The elephant trekking part of the tour was more than I expected. We were on top of the elephant for an hour trekking up and down mountains tracks and I have to confess I was a little out of my comfort zone especially when the elephant decended down a steep track that appeared to be very unstable. The Elephants obviously do this day in and day out and I am sure we were not in any danger. However I had white nuckles holding on tightly just in case I hurtled over the elephants head.

Our guide sat very confidently on the top of the elephants head or walked beside the elephant on steep slopes.

The views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking and we really appreciated the beauty of the Thailand mountains.

This adventure tour was very worthwhile as we had a good overview of the mountain area of this part of Thailand. We were back at the resort by 4.30 pm which was nice timing.
