Cape Otway Lighthouse, Victoria - October 2014

We left Apollo Bay travelling to Port Campbell and decided to call in to Cape Otway to view the Lighthouse.  It was quite an experience in more ways than one.

It was a very windy day and the road into the Cape was very narrow when passing other vehicles and was tree lined all the way.  Some of the branches were very low and overhanging the roadway and on such a windy day we were unlucky enough to have a branch blow down low enough to catch the side mirror on our motor home and subsequently scratch all the way along the van.  We were all right on the way in but coming back out we were caught with the low branch where is was not supposed to be. Something to be wary of with the height of motor homes. Normal height vehicles would have been okay.

The visit to the Lighthouse was good.  To enter we had to go into the Gift Shop, pay our entry fee of $35 and then exit through a side door to walk to the lighthouse.  The coastline was very rugged and you could see the need for a lighthouse there.  An added bonus was the Telegraph Station Museum which had some interesting historical items and information about the Cape.

It was easy walking and not difficult to get to the top of the lighthouse.  The views were worthwhile and there was a person at the top who could give you all the information on the working of the lighthouse.
