Top of Cape York, Australia - Thursday 30th June 2011

This was the day we were all waiting for.  Our chance to say we have been to the most northern point of Australia and to be able to tick it off our bucket list.  We had a lovely sunny day - not too hot or too cold.

We travelled from Seisia through  the beautiful "Lockerbie Scrub" an isolated pocket of monsoon rainforest on our way to Somerset (see separate posting) & then on to Cape York.

We arrived at Cape York at low tide which gave us an opportunity to walk the beach on our way to the climb up to the most northern point.  The climb up was not all that difficult but it was dangerous because the rocks were uneven and slippery.  We did have a couple of slips in our group but nobody was hurt. This is not a tour to do if you have bad knees or hips, heart trouble or unsteady on your feet as the climb is steep if you have problems.

It was exciting to be at the top & it was great for photo shoots.

On the way back we stopped at the "Croc Tent" where we had a chance to buy our "I have been to the top" shirts & other gifts.

We stopped in the rain forest for a picnic lunch which was a lovely finish for the day.

When we got back to Seisia the boys had time to go fishing before dinner.
