Vietnam - Hang Sung Sot Grotto - The Surprise Cave, Halong Bay - April 2013

This was the first of our optional tours from our cruise boat on Halong Bay.  I was very happy that I took this tour as it was a much better experience that I had expected.  I was thinking that it would only be a small grotto with a lot of steps to and from.  It turned out to be a huge grotto with many magnificent caves.  There were steps and uneven paths to be negotiated but they were not all that challenging (especially compared with Ti Top Island).  It would be a concern if you were not steady on your feet as some of the areas were dark and gloomy with a few treacherous areas if you were not looking where you were going.  The caves were all lit up with very effective lighting much as they do at the Jenolan Caves.

I was very impressed with the grotto - it certainly compares with our Jenolan Caves here in Australia.and have a bigger area to walk through. It was a good place to visit and it was hard to capture the true beauty with the camera.  Again we got there by tender boat which was easy enough. We all managed to get in and out without doing any damage to ourselves.
