Vietnam - Ti Top Island, Halong Bay - April 2013

Ti Top Island was one of our stop off points during our Halong Bay cruise.  It was an optional visit but well worth the effort.

There was a nice small beach area where families and young children could spend a couple of relaxing hours.
Alternative there were some good challenging walks up to the top of the island where there are some lookouts.  The only ones that went from our group were Wally and Duncan and myself.  We wanted to walk up to the top lookout which did not look too bad from a distance.

I can tell you it was a struggle with some 400 odd steps very vertical and not in the best of condition.  I had to stop and rest 4 times before I got to the top.  The boys were good and carried my camera bag which helped.  It was very rewarding to reach the top as the views were magnificent.  One word of warning to anyone who has any health issues - the walk is challenging and you need a reasonable level of fitness to reach the top.  We saw one young person in distress when we got to the top.  Allow plenty of time and take it easy.

It was a shame that the weather was overcast which made everything have a gray haze.  The scenes were so naturally beautiful and magnificent to take in from the top of the island.  It is not the same perspective at water level.   Coming back down was not so difficult as it was dangerous.  The pathway is not in good condition and some of the safety ropes are anything but safe.   We caught our tender boat back to our cruise ship in time for a drink before dinner.
