Bunker Bay - Margaret River Region WA - April 2011

The Quay West Resort at Bunker Bay WA (very top of the Margaret River Region ) was our home for three days while exploring the Margaret River. It is a beautiful remote area near to the beach & 20 minutes drive to the nearest town of Dunsborough where there were other restaurants, shopping centres and a nice golf course.

The resort had beautiful very private units with full kitchens, large bedroom/lounge room/balcony/ two TV sets and a huge bathroom where you could hold a party for 10 people comfortably. It had everything except a laundry which seemed irrelevant. We were originally booked into the Lakeview units that were closer to the beach. Cars were not allowed to be driven to the units & had to be left in the carpark up the hill near the main facilities. Guests could call on motorised carts to take them to and from their cars or the facilities. Our travel Agent extraordinaire (David, from Happy Holidays, Ettalong NSW) in his wisdom changed us to invalid units which was great for us as they were close to the carpark which meant much less inconvenience for us to get around.

It was a short walk to the beach which was beautiful and we had our first dip in the Indian Ocean

and watched the sun set over the ocean (both on our bucket list). We had absolutely brilliant weather, sunshine and blue skies and very balmy nights where we could sit outside and eat.

We had a couple of visits to Dunsborough to see the shopping centre and for dinner one night at a restaurant recommended by the resort. The "Food Farmacy" was an upmarket restaurant which we felt was over rated from our perspective. After that we ate at the Resort Restaurant which was reasonable by comparison & we found the food very nice. We played golf at the Dunsborough Lakes Golf Resort one day and spent the other day on a winery tour (separate posting for these two days).

The resort was impressive with it's facilities with a lovely swimming pool, gym, BBQ area, bars and restaurant. I was very taken with a decorative sphere that was in one of the foyers made out of scrap metal. Strangely enough I saw more of this type of art for sale at the King's Park gift shop in Perth. Scrap Metal does not come cheap in this form.

I could have spent more time here as it was a very comfortable place to stay.
