Kalgoorlie WA - April 2011

We arrived at Kalgoorlie WA at 10 o'clock at night after a long trip from Perth. There were buses waiting to take us on a night tour which took us through the city with a commentary on all the interesting and historical places including the still operating brothels. Our highlight was seeing the Super Pit in action. The Super Pit works 24/7 and the pit is 300 metres deep and yet to go a further 400 metres so it is a huge project. The enormous work vehicles looked like matchbox toys from the lookout. It was too cold to spend a lot of time there but it was interesting to see such a big project in action. The town itself was very quite being a Sunday night but there were some coffee shops open to cater for the train travellers that did not want to do the town tour.
