Kings Park Perth WA - April 2011

Kings Park is definitely a "must do" when visiting Perth whether you are a park and plant lover or not the venue is magnificent with scenery to match.

Being a lover of parklands and gardens I had a special interest in visiting the park. The park was pristine with beautiful old trees and well kept lawns, walking trails & paths through acres of parkland with fabulous view of Perth City and the Swan River which is even more spectacular at the weekends when all the boats are out on the water.

The botanical gardens were of special interest to me because they were all set out in separate gardens for each area of the state that they thrived in. Each of the plants & trees were named and I could have spent quite a long time checking that area out.

There were plenty of seats and viewing areas, cafes and gift shops - I could have spent the whole day there.

From our river cruise I spotted a Tree Top Walk somewhere near the park but we did not have time to check that out.

We visited the area twice during our tour - the first day as part of our city discovery tour. The second day was on our last day in Perth. We decided that we would like to have a restful laid back day and a take away fish & chips with a bottle of wine at the park seemed quite in order.

We searched all around Perth for a fish & chip shop & ended up finding one at Mt Lawley.

Being a Saturday the park was very busy with both tourists and locals. We eventually found a shady spot for lunch and spent some lazy hours enjoying the park.

I had the mandatory cruise through the gift shop and came across some more of the scrap metal art pieces similar to that were in the Quay West Resort. I was fascinated with the workmanship as there was all kinds of scrap metal used including car parts, belt buckles, spoons, forks, scissors - quite amazing. Some people are very clever.

It was a nice way to finish up our West Australian experience and I enjoyed every minute of my day there.
